The severe storms of last week caused flash flooding for many communities in Central Vermont, causing widespread damage to homes, businesses and roadways. Four to five inches fell last Thursday night in Barre, where the damage is expected to exceed $1 million.
The video below was shot by the Times Argus, the local daily paper for the Barre/Montpelier area. The high quantity of water caused the culvert on Gallison Hill Road in Montpelier to rip out of the ground, destroying the road in the process.
Vermont’s congressional delegation is urging President Obama to grant Governor Shumlin’s request for federal disaster aid for Central Vermont.
