Gov. Peter Shumlin, D-Vermont, put on an ANSI retroreflective vest Wednesday and lended a hand filling potholes with a crew from the VTrans District 6 Middlesex Garage on U.S. Route 2.

“This sure beats making laws,” said Shumlin in the report by WCAX Reporter Kristin Carlson.

VTrans has spent $1.3 million on pothole patching so far this year.

“We’re going to spend all the money we need to make sure we fill the potholes, but of course it’s not good news; we’ve already spent the budget. We’ll keep filling but it will have to come from somewhere else,” Shumlin said.

Shumlin held his own, filling a few potholes with the mix.

“He did an excellent job,” said Reina Dean of VTrans in Carlson’s report.
